Motor Vehicle Collisions

Whiplash and other bodily injuries are often sustained in a motor vehicle accident (MVC).  Whiplash is a term that is used to describe an injury to the neck as a result of a high velocity trauma. The injury can involve any of the neck tissues (bone, cartilage, ligament, muscle) and can be of varying severity. Treatment of  injuries sustained in an MVC is most effective when they are addressed soon after they occur.

Who Can Provide Treatment?

Physiotherapists are primary providers and are trained to safely assess the status of your musculoskeletal and neurological systems to determine the most appropriate treatment. Your physician and/or other healthcare practitioners may also be involved in this process.

Why See a Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists are well educated regarding pain control, injury classification and management, and functional rehabilitation. It has been proven in the research that a combination of manual therapy and specific muscle recruitment exercises is the most beneficial regime and physiotherapists are highly trained in these areas. ( also see Manual Therapy, Vestibular Therapy, Concussion Rehabilitation )
